Charleston Southern University
opened its doors in 1964 as the only church affiliated college in the area. Today it ranks as the second largest private university in South Carolina. The CSU curriculum offers 35 undergraduate degrees, masters in business administration and education and various specialists degrees.

2. Founded in 1770 and charted in 1785, the
College of Charleston
is the oldest institution of higher education in South Carolina and is the 13th oldest in the nation. The College of Charleston is a four-year state assisted liberal arts institution offering 44 undergraduate degree programs in conjunction with the University of Charleston, which offers 16 graduate degree programs including information technology, education, history, marine biology, mathematics, accounting, public administration and others. The College of Charleston is ranked as one of the best values in education in the US.
3. Founded in 1842, The Citadel
is the largest non-federal military college in United States. The Citadel's philosophy combines classroom requirements with the military environment which emphasizes discipline, responsiveness and leadership. The Citadel offers 20 graduate degree programs, including MBA and MEd programs, and 15 undergraduate degree programs.

The Medical University of South Carolina
is the oldest medical school in the South and forms the core of the state's largest medical complex - which is located in downtown Charleston. Established in 1824, MUSC has six colleges including the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Dentistry, College of Graduate Studies and College of Health-Related Professions.
7. Miller-Motte Technical College entered the Charleston area five years ago offering degree programs in the medical, business, and information technology fields.

Trident Technical College
is highly rated, public two-year institution that was founded in 1964 to serve the area by providing accessible, practical high-quality education. In addition to vocational and technical education programs, Trident Technical College provides special training for new and expanding business through the state's Center for Accelerating Technology Training.
9. Webster University offers accredited graduate programs in various fields of business, management education, the liberal arts and sciences and the fine arts.
10. The Low Country Graduate Center, is a cooperative effort of the Citadel, the University of Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina.
11. The Charleston School of Law opened its doors for the first time in 2004 to meet the areas legal education needs. This is the second law school in the state of South Carolina. It has approximately 400 full-time students and 150 part-time students.
